Warnings

Self harm/suicidal ideation - Verso starts the game a self-destructive mess and then does things like cut himself in half for a party trick — something he acknowledges hurts a shitload.

Lying - He is a liar. He lies easily and well.

Abuse and trauma - Verso's father is an abusive monster who asked for horrific things from him. Verso is basically PTSD in the shape of a person.

The Painters - The Dessendre family have the power to bring worlds to life within canvases by placing a piece of their soul within it.

The Canvas - the canvas where most of the game takes place was made by Verso Dessendre as a child.

Verso Dessendre - The Verso I play is not the real Verso Dessendre. He is a painted construct created by the real Verso's mother, Aline Dessendre, after the real Verso died in a fire saving his little sister, Alicia.

Family - The rest of Verso's family are also replicas of the real Dessendre family. They include his father Renoir, an abusive monster; Aline, the paintress, a puppet for the real Aline who painted and maintains all the humans of the canvas (bar one); Clea, his older sister, a perfectionist and prodigy, the same as her real counterpart, however when we meet her in the game she has been painted over by the real Clea, something that even the real Aline might not have managed; Alicia, his younger sister, her face scarred and one eye lost from the fire that killed the real Verso Dessendre, smoke inhalation means she is unable to speak.

This painted family are the Dessendre family as seen through Aline's eyes in the wake of her grief of losing her son, her favourite child. Renoir is cold, ruthless and abusive. Alicia could have been painted with her appearance from before the fire, or at least able to speak, however she is not. This is likely a punishment from Aline as Aline blames Alicia for the fire, and for her surviving in Verso's place.

This painted family are immortal and stopped aging apart from their hair which turned grey/white.

Maelle - the name the real Alicia is given when she was lost and reborn in the canvas. Verso treats her much as he would Alicia, though Maelle only regains her memories towards the end of the game, rediscovering her paintress side.

The endings - The game has two endings, diverging by a choice to pick Maelle or Verso. The Maelle ending has Maelle (the real Alicia) continue to live in the canvas, maintaining the lives of the humans in the canvas with her paintress powers which will eventually lead to her falling to the madness which claimed the real Aline.

The Verso ending has Verso ask the part of the real Verso's soul still painting in the canvas if he is tired and if he would like to stop painting, and has Maelle return to the real world as Alicia, facing reality, grieving but choosing to respect the dead by moving forward to create something new.

Warning: torture - He was tortured by past expeditioners, they extensively tested his immortality.

Warning: abuse/trauma/murder - He was forced to murder expeditioners by his father, the painted Renoir.

Warning: Probably a bunch of other stuff along these lines - I'm tired, but the man is a mess.
